Queensland Motorways introduced a free-flow tolling system (GoVia) on the Gateway and Logan motorways in July 2009. In future all new toll roads in Queensland will use free-flow tolling. What is GoVia? GoVia (free-flow tolling) is a no stopping tolling system aimed at easing congestion and improving travel times, safety and communication for motorists on toll roads. What will GoVia mean for road users? The cash lanes and toll booths on Queensland's road network have been removed. You will instead experience driving on an open motorway with tolls automatically calculated as you pass under a tolling point (via an overhead gantry). How will motorists pay their toll? Tolls will be deducted or billed electronically using video tolling where an image of your registration plate number is captured as you cruise under a tolling point. Cash will continue as a payment method, it just won't be payable on the road! Instead it will be through other channels, such as Queensland Motorways Customer Service Centres and other retail outlets. There are approximately 450 participating go via retailers located across south east Queensland, including United Petroleum, BP, Caltex, Freedom Fuels, Coles Express, Matilda, Nextra, Supanews, and Night Owl stores. What does this mean for Ace Car Rental customers? Motorists on the motorways will also be able to purchase an appropriate tolling product online, or by telephone from Queensland Motorways. If you don't have a payment arrangement in place, you have three (3) days to pay. Toll payments can be backdated to include journeys already made within the past three (3) days. Should you choose not to pre-purchase or pay your toll within the three (3) day period, and Ace Car Rentals is issued with an infringement from Queensland Motorways for your rental vehicle, this infringement will be re-directed via a Statutory Declaration to the hirer of the vehicle. The preparation of each Statutory Declaration will incur an administration fee of $25.00. This will apply for each individual infringement received. Should you have any concerns in relation to any of the above, please don't hesitate to contact Go Via on 1300 046 842 or visit the 'Go Via' website at www.govia.com.au.
