Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu on New Zealand’s South Island, Queenstown is a haven for the adventurous, the lovers of excitement and seekers of adrenaline. Packed full of scary, but fun activities, you’re sure to find something to get that blood pumping.
Get into the swing of Queenstown living
One of the first must-do activities you need to experience while visiting Queenstown is enjoying a giant swing. While a swing sounds peaceful and unfrightening, this is anything but. You’ll need to prepare yourself for this one – and by that we mean you may need to bring a change of underwear just in case.
We have rental car locations all over New Zealand and Australia so no matter where you plan to pick up your car rental or drop off your rental car we will be able to accommodate your needs, our locations are all open 7 days a week and with arrangement offer after-hours Rental car pickups and drop-offs.
New Zealand - Auckland Airport, Auckland City, Christchurch Airport, Wellington Airport, Picton Interislander Ferry Terminal, Queenstown Airport and Dunedin Airport.
Australia - Adelaide Airport, Brisbane Airport, Cairns Airport, Cairns CBD, Gold Coast Airport, Melbourne Airport, Sydney Airport and Perth Airport
There are a couple of swings to choose from and each one offers incredible experiences you won’t soon forget. If you’re brave enough, head over to the Shotover Canyon Swing, which boasts being the world’s highest cliff jump at 109 metres! A quick 15 minutes from town (transport is included in the price) you’ll prepare for an epic adrenaline injection as you free-fall a whopping 60 metres before swinging over 200 metres within the canyon.
Do a simple step off the ledge or get creative – there are heaps of ways to swing, including backwards, going tandem with a friend or while sitting on a chair.
Take on the Nevis Bungy
Still up for more you say? If the big swing wasn’t enough, head to the highest bungy in NZ. We guarantee this will make even the toughest of you sweat. The incredible Nevis Bungy will see you complete a 134 metre bungy jump. While the free-fall is over in less than 10 seconds, we’re sure it’s going to take you a while to muster up the courage to actually jump.
Take a ride on the Shotover Jet
You haven’t had a jet boat ride like this before. The Shotover Jet explores the Shotover Canyon and combines the gorgeous natural landscape with echoes of laughter and fear. Donning a life jacket, you’ll jump on board the boat, which travels up to 90km/h in water that can be as shallow as 10cm.
You’ll enjoy 360-degree spins as you go wall to wall down the canyons. This is a great activity for families or friends who all share a love of the rush that comes from doing something just a tad scary.
Enjoy pretty scenery from a gondola and luge
Looking for less scary, easier fun? The Luge is a perfect choice. First, ride a gondola up to the top of Bob’s Peak and enjoy stunning views. From its peak, you can then check out the luge that will combine those pretty views with a fun, winding ride. This is great fun for families or friends with a competitive streak looking for a race to the bottom.
Hit the slopes
Down in Queenstown for winter? Then you have to head to the slopes for some skiing, snowboarding or snowman making. If you’re a first timer, we recommend professional lessons so you can get the most out of your visit.
