Your Adelaide Airport Destination Guide

If you’re planning a trip to this underrated Australian capital city, read through our destination guide to learn more about the must-see sights and attractions:

Come for the wine, stay for the scenery

Vino lovers rejoice. The breathtaking Adelaide Hills are famous for their generous bounty of world-class wines. Home to over 60 individual wineries, the hills are widely considered one of Australia’s top cool-climate wine regions. Better yet, they’re easily accessible via a short drive from Adelaide’s CBD.

To help make the decision process a little less overwhelming, some of your top picks include:

  • Bird in Hand: This winery is famous for its award-winning Shiraz.
  • Hahndorf Hill: Known for pioneering new Australia grape varieties.
  • The Lane Vineyard: Enjoy delectable dining options at the winery’s hilltop dining room.

Embrace your cultural side at the Art Gallery of South Australia

The Art Gallery of South Australia proudly holds one of the largest art museum collections in all the country. For those looking to experience the cultural attractions the city has to offer, head on over to the heritage 19th and 20th-century buildings making up Adelaide’s cultural precinct in the city’s heart.

With over 47,000 works of art sourced from Australia, Asia, North America and Europe, you’ll quickly lose yourself among these extraordinary and carefully curated exhibitions and displays.

If you’re interested in experiencing contemporary and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, then it’s also worth paying a visit to Tandanya, the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute.

Stroll through the Botanic Gardens

No trip to Adelaide would be complete without a day spent wandering through the three public gardens that make up this stunning natural attraction. Choose from Adelaide Botanic Garden in the CBD, Wittunga Botanic Garden in the suburb Blackwood, south of the CBD, or Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in the Adelaide Hills, approximately 30 minutes away from the CBD in your hire car.

The gardens offer an impressive collection of recreational, educational, cultural and scientific facilities for guests to enjoy.

A year-round festival calendar

Adelaide has become renowned for its stunningly diverse mix of festivals throughout the year. February and March are two of the busiest months, hosting popular events such as the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe and WOMADelaide.

For those looking for the funny, whacky and weird, the Fringe Festival, in particular, offers a jam-packed program of comedy, cabaret and more. Simply hit the streets and choose from over 900 events as you explore pop-up locations and acts at established galleries, theatres and other venues.

Planning your Adelaide visit

Adelaide’s domestic and international airport is just a short 15-minute drive to the city centre. Book your rental car ahead of your trip so you’re ready to explore this lovely city and its vibrant countryside in comfort.
