Your Perth Airport Destination Guide

Sandy white beaches flow into bustling urban centres and lush city parklands so large they make you feel like you’re in the middle of the bush. Once you’re done exploring, you have many small bars, cultural centres and creative restaurants available to fill your days.

Below are some of the top destinations to visit when in Perth.

Choose from a smorgasbord of picturesque beaches

One of the perks of having a long, interrupted coastline is the sheer swathe of beaches available. All you need is a car and a desire to go, and the options are limitless. You can lose whole days simply cruising along the coast watching the crystal-clear, turquoise waters roll against the sandy white shores.

We recommend visiting North Beach for its interesting rock pools, Mettams Pool for its ideal snorkelling reef, Cottesloe Beach for its cafes, or Trigg Beach for its family-friendly playground and grassy areas.

Enjoy some vino in the Swan Valley

Once you’ve finished cruising the coasts, turn inland and head to Swan Valley to experience Western Australia’s oldest and most popular wine region. Home to over 40 vineyards, it’s needless to say you’ll find plenty to fill your time as you bounce from the winery, to eatery, to brewery and back again. If you can pry yourself away from the excellent food and drink, you can also pay a visit to Caversham Wildlife Park to cuddle some koalas and feed the kangaroos.

Hit the beach(s)

Western Australia commands one of the longest, uninterrupted coastlines in the country, and this equates to a generous supply of stunning beaches. Hire a car for the day and hit the road to go beach hopping. What better way to pass the day than cruising the coastal road with the tranquil ocean sliding by alongside kilometre after kilometre of gorgeous beaches?

Our recommendations including hitting up Mettams Pool for an excellent snorkelling reef, or North Beach for its scattering of fun rock pools. For a family-friendly option, head to Trigg Beach to take advantage of its grassy lawns and playground.

Become besties with a quokka

Wild quokkas are exclusively found in Western Australia, and this is all the justification you need for visiting their home on Rottnest Island, just over 30 kilometres from Perth. These adorable little marsupials have become famous for their cute, smiling faces and friendly attitude towards tourists. You can understand how they’ve earned the title of “the happiest animal in the world” when they’re still grinning after putting up with tourists pestering them for selfies.

On that note, try to be respectful when getting your happy snap with your furry little friend and use a selfie stick to keep your distance so you don’t spook them. They may be trusting, but there’s only so much anyone can take of having a camera shoved in their face!

From the city to the park

Forget New York City’s Central Park, Perth is home to the expansive Kings Park – one of the largest city parks in the entire world. Situated in the core of Perth, this peaceful slice of nature affords generous views of the Canning and Swan Rivers and the city skyline nestled along their banks. Stroll the winding pathways and discover sculpted gardens, a treetop bridge, cafes and massive white-trunked trees.

Explore the historic Fremantle streets

Rent yourself a car and mosey on down to the port town of Fremantle, just a 30-minute drive from Perth. These historic streets are an echo of their former colonial days and blend heritage architecture with modern dining venues and the famous Little Creatures Brewery.

So, if wine, beaches, cute animals and nature are your jam, Perth is the destination for you.
